High Spur Slot Canyon
High Spur slot canyon contains the most beautiful sections of slot I've ever seen. The canyon slots up nicely right off the bat, alternates between open and slot, and finishes with a breathtaking finale. It is a perfect canyon for beginners with relatively easy obstacles to overcome. I've really wanted to do High Spur since reading that it was as pretty as Antelope Canyon but without the guide fees or the crowds. So the weekend of October 25, 2013, I decided we would head down to High Spur and do the non-technical parts since my wife isn't very keen on the tech stuff.
On September 29th, 2015, Stephanie and I took a stroll through High Spur.
It was an absolutely gorgeous canyon. The sandstone in this canyon is so unblemished and red that few other canyons can rival its beauty. The flat bottom is so wide you could almost push a wheelchair through it. Some canyons take a hefty toll, but this one just gives and gives and gives… There's not much of a story here, except that I wish we had fixed ropes then reversed the canyon, rather than hike out under the hot sun. Even then, the hike out is pretty stunning, and I’m glad we did it once.

Low Spur is not a 4 star canyon, but is a great, short adventure. It works well as a canyon to do after doing one of the other canyons in the area when you still have some time left over. I can't recommend it as a destination, but do think it is an interesting canyon if you are in the area. It's signature feature is a cave-like overhang that is rather unique.It also has a short, moderately tricky up climb that is easiest with a partner, so not a good canyon to solo.
The canyon is suitable for all canyoneers. It does involve ascending a rope, but it is straightforward. Some will simply batman the rope, although ascenders are recommended to be safe.
